This organization was named in honor of my daughter Harley. We are a faith and community-based resource hub that is all about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Harley was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and by the age of twenty-two she discovered ketoacidosis had developed. Harley was a part of the LGBTQ+ community and yes she had a zest for life, a love for people, and we appreciated that she was proud to be her authentic self.

Years ago, like many others, our family had it's own experience with family violence and the crack epidemic. I look back and think, wow, not only did we get caught up and lost in the drug system, we also got caught up in the other systems and lost in the cracks of it. What do you do when you're double-cracked?

Speaking for myself, after years of healing and recovering from traumatic events, a real reunification was more important to me than what the system was offering. Unlike many others, I knew that my family did not belong in that broken system, our rights individually and collectively were violated but that's where we found ourselves regardless. My Harley's Heart is more than just another organization, it is a testimony, a monument, a success story and a gift. We welcome you to join us in our efforts in foster care and juvenile justice reform. Thank you!

My Big Sisters Glasses

Harley loved looking her best and was known for being very stylish with her own twist added to each look she portrayed. This photo is call "My Big Sister's Glasses" because, this day, before the picture was snapped Harley asked to wear my glasses in the photo.
